taipei

I just learned that eating airline food is a good way to lose half a pound on a 14-hour flight across seven time zones - this may be useful to me in the future. I'm in Taipei right now, using their hightech, HiNet Taiwanese wi-fi. There's so much humidity that the windows looking out at Taiwan are dripping with condensation and I feel like I stepped into a sort of junglish edifice - but the walls and seats are gray, and there are airport arrows and signs everywhere. It's 6:06am here, so none of the stores are closed. I feel wide awake because it's afternoon in SLC.

I made the 45-min check-in deadline in SLC by 5 minutes, waited for the uniforma steven and Ilia drove back to get, and within 10 minutes of recovering the uniform I lost it. Somewhere after security (I picked it up, I remember) and before the plane (which I barely made). It's Ilia's fault; I grabbed some hot tea before the flight.

The waiting lounge is nearly empty - no one else looks like they're here for the Games, but who can tell. After all, I look like some oily-haired hippy still giddy from high elevation and wide-eyed with bogglement. I wonder if there's another climbing competitor in here. I don't think so. Climbers can smell each other from hostels away. I'm going to change out of this skirt and do a little training in the waiting lounge. Let's so how many people give me weird looks when I start doing push-ups.

Note to self: find a currency exchange kiosk.
